Historique :	L'abbaye bénédictine est fondée au 7e siècle grâce à Calmin, duc d'Aquitaine, agrégée à Cluny en 1095. L'église primitive fondée en 700 a été remplacée par une église romane au 12e siècle et remaniée au 15e siècle. Ce chapiteau a été trouvé en 1983 par le curé, car il avait été utilisé comme pierre à bâtir par les restaurateurs du 15e siècle et placé dans le mur du choeur côté sud. Il faisait partie des huit chapiteaux du choeur roman détruit, dont cinq ont été retrouvés. Un est conservé à Londres, un autre a pour thème les Saintes Femmes au tombeau, un représente des Atlantes et le quatrième se trouve au musée lapidaire. Celui qui est classé en 2008 est le cinquième. Le logis abbatial vient d'être acquis par la commune.
