Historique :	Statue datant probablement du 17e siècle. Type très utilisé pour l'ornementation des niches de façade des maisons dans la vieille ville du Puy et sans doute aussi proposé aux pèlerins. De nombreux exemplaires sont visibles dans les collections du Musée Crozatier du Puy, en bois mais aussi en pierre polychrome.

Précision_sur la representation :	Conformément à la mode adoptée par les sculpteurs ponots, dès le 17e siècle, la Vierge noire en majesté de la cathédrale du Puy est représentée revêtue d'un manteau laissant voir seulement sa tête et celle de l'Enfant Jésus. L'artiste faisait aussi l'économie du modelé de l'ensemble de la statue et de son siège.
